About Us

Debbie Anderson

Principal Teacher and Owner of The Anderson School of Dance.

Debbie has danced since the age of 6, starting with Ballet in 1982, then progressing onto Latin American, Ballroom and Freestyle Disco. Debbie completed all of her medals under the training of Mr and Mrs Yard from the Walderslade School of Dancing.

There, Debbie realised her passion was in Freestyle Disco and Latin American Dance which she loved. Debbie stayed at the school until Mr and Mrs Yard retired and then decided to open up her own Dance School teaching Freestyle Disco, and so The Anderson School of Dance was born.

Over the years, Debbie has tried various styles of dancing starting with Ballet, then going into Ballroom, Latin American, Freestyle Disco and Line Dancing (of which Debbie was 1995/96 Line Dance Champion), then Ceroc and Salsa for fun, Modern Jazz, Theatre Craft and Tap to broaden her knowledge and more recently trying her hand at different fitness classes!!

Debbie now has 2 Street Crews, and also a couple of Competition Squads who she loves choreographing the formations for. Debbie is also utilising all her Latin American skills within the Adult Combo Freestyle/Latino Class to make a full-on fitness class that is fun and tones the body in style!!

Debbie is a Fully Qualified Dance Teacher with the IDTA (International Dance Teachers Association) and is studying to expand her teaching qualifications in the not too distant future to open classes in other subjects.

Dancing always has and always will be Debbie’s one love. The school is her number one priority. She enjoys teaching and sharing her love of dance with others.

Lorna Prior

Lorna has progressed her way through the School starting as a parent dropping off her eldest (who has been at the School for nearly 15 years) as well as her other 2 children; from attending the Adult Class back in the day to evolving into the highest grade ever Adult Pupil in the School. Lorna has become more confident in class since becoming heavily involved in the School and is now training with Debbie to be a Fully Qualified Freestyle Dance Teacher.

Lorna is the Senior Assistant within The Anderson School of Dance and due to her vast experience with working with the little ones Lorna now does a fab job of taking the Musical Theatre Class for 4-7 years Every Thursday and also helps out within most other classes.

Lorna is very passionate and supportive of the School and is an invaluable helper at each class.

Sharon Mari

We are very excited to say that we have a Professional Musical Theatre Vocal Coach join our Talented Team, teaching 2 of our Musical Theatre Singing Classes Every Thursday at the Hook Meadow Hall in Walderslade (8-12 years / 13-21 years)

Sharon has been awarded bursaries to attend Voice Training Conferences in London, Europe and America. Sharon is a professional in her field and is very passionate about Voice Science, Technique and Voice Care.

We are very lucky to have Sharon working with us at The Anderson School of Dance and love watching the progress the pupils have made since Sharon joined us and are still improving every week!

Sharon loves to sing and pass on her knowledge to others.

Daphne Anderson

Daphne is Debbie’s Mum!!!

Whenever there is any sewing needed for the shows or general outfits Daphne is there. More often than not Daphne is known to be up in the early hours creating outfits or sewing on sequins.

Daphne is a general all-round helper for the school, from making tea for examiners, keeping the pupils under control to helping backstage at shows and organising changes.

She is a keen dancer too, always attending the Adult Combo Classes!! Daphne is very proud to say that she has taken her second Medal at our Dance Exam at the young age of 73! As she says… “If I can do it, other people can too!! Its great exercise and relaxes the mind”.

‘Mum’ has always been there to support Debbie and the school 100% although she has a job that keeps her very busy as well

Emma Prior

Debbie has been teaching Emma to dance since she was 6 years old. Emma has now flourished into an amazing confident young dancer. Starting as a very shy little girl who would dance at the back of the hall 1 hour per week, to helping out at the front of various classes 2-3 times per week and not shy to tell the pupils what to do and how to improve themselves!

Thanks to Debbie, Dance is now Emma’s passion too and despite having a medical condition Emma loves to dance and share her knowledge with others. Emma still loves to perform in the Shows and Competitions that crop up as well as working towards her own exams, plus revising for Teacher Training with Debbie. Emma is a committed and determined dancer, and will always help others around her if they are struggling in class.

Emma has just recently been nominated this year for the 3rd time for the Prestigious Freestyle Scholarships via the IDTA in Birmingham this May. A Fantastic achievement for sure!

Sophie Chapman

Sophie has been attending The Anderson School of Dance for just over 11 years. Like Emma, Sophie started as a very young shy girl who wouldn’t talk and would dance at the back of the class, to now, dancing and helping out at the front of the class 2-3 times per week. Sophie is now an amazing dancer who loves to Dance and take part in the various shows we put on, competitions and working towards her own exams.

As well as working Full Time in a Nursing Home, Sophie is also studying to one day become a Fully Qualified Freestyle Dance Teacher

Sophie has also just recently been nominated for the prestigious Freestyle Scholarships via the IDTA in Birmingham May. This being her 4th year running. What an Amazing achievement

Mum and Lorna are both invaluable helpers at the school as well as Sharon our new Musical Theatre Singing Teacher, and Emma and Sophie. Debbie is very lucky to have them all and very much appreciates what they do.
